Mariam
Mariam is a third year undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University, majoring in International Studies with a minor in History (concentration in Middle East and Islamic History). She has spent most of her life in Lebanon, returning to Canada for university. Her last two years of high school were spent in Italy studying at the United World College of the Adriatic. Mariam's academic areas of interest mostly include the history and politics of the Middle East, as well as learning new languages. In addition she is fluent in Arabic, English, Italian and French. Currently, she is an executive member of the Palestinian Human Right Committee at SFU, volunteering with the Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture (VAST), and will participate in Doctor's Without Borders' "refugee camp in the city" as an on-site volunteer. Mariam hopes to use her past volunteer experiences, as well as her cultural background to contribute something new to Canada's World.
