Laura is an undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University's School for International Studies. Laura returned to university in September 2008 after a seven-year break during which she gained extensive experience working with youth, people with disabilities and the non-profit sector. She developed an after-school program designed to engage pre-teens with some of the social issues facing themselves and their communities through creativity and art. Laura also traveled to Scotland and Rwanda twice, helping to develop partnerships between young people in Canada and the respective countries to connect and empower them to make a difference in their communities and world.
Currently, along with her studies at SFU, Laura works for Mainstream Association for Proactive Community Living at a day program and group home for people with disabilities. She is excited about working with Canada's World this summer, and learning more about engaging citizens through the dialogue process - a tool that she hopes to be able to use in future work, specifically in 2010 when she plans to spending eight months in Rwanda working with young people there.
