Dr. John Harriss

 

Dr. John Harriss is the Director of the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University. Dr Harriss is an anthropologist, specialising on South Asia and on questions relating to development. He received his first degrees, in Archaeology and Anthropology, from the University of Cambridge, taking First Class Honours (1968); and his PhD, in economic anthropology, from the University of East Anglia (1977). Dr Harriss was Reader in Development Studies, and Dean of the School of Development Studies at the University of East Anglia (until 1990) and was thereafter Director of the Development Studies Institute of the London School of Economics (until 2006). He became Professor of International Studies, and Director of the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University in September 2006.
